Delaware Valley School Board Vice President, John Fisher, and his wife, Sue, recently funded the Mathematics Proficiency Award, which is given to the high school senior who exemplifies superior understanding of mathematical concepts and has a promising college career in a related field. This year’s award went to Cathy Li.

“I am committed to the education of students in our district and I am proud to support Cathy as she begins her bright future in college,” said Fisher.

Fisher has served on the school board for a total of 15 years. Additionally, he is Vice President of the Milford-Matamoras Rotary Club, his children are DV graduates, and their family has lived in the district for over 30 years. Fisher owns John R. Fisher, CPA, CFP, which has offices in Lords Valley, Pa. and Branchville, N.J.

“In light of the fact that I consider DV to be an outstanding school, and the natural link between math and accounting, I am glad to become the new annual sponsor for this scholarship,” said Fisher.

The scholarship had recently lost funding until Math Department Chair Kevin Devizia reached out to the community to advocate for this important district need and presented at Rotary, which is how Fisher was made aware of the need.

Fisher praised Devizia, “for going above and beyond his teaching duties and reaching out to the community so that Cathy could be rewarded for her hard work and get a good start in college. Kevin exemplifies what makes DV teachers so special. Providing this award is a great way for me to recognize the hard work of our students and their teachers.”
