Eagle projects get support from Dingman

DINGMAN TOWNSHIP — “It’s a very difficult thing to attain," said Dingman Supervisor’s Chair Thomas Mincer about achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. "It’s a very limited number of scouts who obtain the rank.”

At a recent meeting, Supervisors agreed to send letters recommending two new Eagle Scouts of Troop 71 in Milford, Jonathan Leif Tjornhom and Richard Andrew Joerger. They will have their Eagle Court of Honor April 18, when letters of recommendation and certificates will be presented to the boys, wrote Christa Fuchs, Committee Chair, in a letter to the supervisors.

"Quite frankly, Pike County probably has a proportionally higher amount of Eagle Scouts than other places," said Mincer. "I think our scouts do a good job."

Richard’s Eagle Service project was, according to Fuchs, “to create an Emergency Communication Operations Center at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of which he’s an active member. It provides the church’s Emergency Shelter with the ability to communicate both in and out of the facility in order to maintain important links with the community and government agencies when normal forms of communication are disabled."

He also created a comprehensive operation manual for the emergency shelter staff.

Jonathan’s Eagle project was constructing a shed for the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

“This will provide the church youth group, of which Jonathan is a very active member, some much needed storage,” said the description by Fuchs.

Jonathan had the positions of Chaplain Aide, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Scribe, Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, and Librarian, while Richard held the positions of Quartermaster, Senior Patrol Leader, and Librarian.

The Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony will take place at noon on Saturday, April 18, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 103 Delaware Crest, Dingmans Ferry. To RSVP, call 570-686-3209.
