Food pantry is ready for Easter and Passover distribution
MILFORD — The Ecumenical Food Pantry of Pike County is doing a special holiday meal distribution so that its clients can enjoy a festive holiday meal with their families at Easter or Passover.
"We will provide all the fixings, sweet potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, a desert mix, milk, eggs, and more to over 50 families," says Jim Snodgrass at the food pantry. "And, thanks to the generosity of Junior Zayed and his team at Key Food, Milford, we will be able to provide a chicken or ham as the centerpiece of the special feast.
"Key Food just told us the happy news that they will donate 50 hams for the food pantry’s distribution. We only have to provide the chickens that some people may choose. Wow!
When we visited Junior Z to thank him for his generosity, he just smiled and told us he wanted to help. And, to set an example to other businesses to also get involved in fighting hunger in our community. What a great example!"
Snodgrass said he didn't know when the hams will be delivered to the pantry except that it will be before Friday afternoon, April 13.
"But I know we will start giving them out Friday evening at 6:30 p.m., and some clients may come earlier," he said.
He said pantry volunteers were really worried about being able to afford the meat or chickens for this special project and were "so relieved and impressed at the generosity" of Key Food.
