Garden club plants, weeds, and harvests to feed the hungry

— Milford Garden Club members busily weeded and planted beds in the community garden, tucked between the Dollar General store and the Milford Township offices.
Home Depot partners with theclub to create the garden, whose harvest supplies patrons of the ecumenical food pantry with fresh produce to go along with its nonperishable offerings.
Home Depot donates the mature vegetable plants, which are planted in raised beds by volunteers.
A Grey Towers horticultural group weeds the garden weekly. Ground hogs and bunnies also love the garden, by the way. The Grey Towers group traps them in Have a Heart traps and releases them many miles away. Last year they had only one groundhog, after two years of serious problems with the invaders, who especially fancy corn-on-the-cob and peaches.
The club often does second and third plantings. Earlier this spring, Sue Daley and her husband planted broccoli. The first crop of pole beans is growing by inches each day.  Mignon Teeple and her children, Aubry and Nolan, came to plant a second crop of pole beans.
The members welcomed the chance to pray for the health of their garden with the Rev. Van Bankston. Busy volunteers weeded and planted,  dreaming of harvest.
