Generations converge at Dingman-Delaware Middle School
DINGMANS FERRY — Dingman-Delaware Middle School treated a special cross-generational audience to a sneak peek at their Spring Theatre production, “Allison Wonder’s Land.”
Twenty-six local seniors responded to the invitation, and were joined by 18 children — ages six to 13 — participating in Take Your Child to Work Day.
“It was fabulous,” said one senior on her way out. “I really, really wanted to meet the Queen. She was fantastic!”
The event was organized by the principal, Mr. James Mitchell, who wants to give students more intergenerational experiences and to serve the larger community. He encouraged teachers not only to participate in the national Take Your Child to Work Day observance, but to include their children in the instructional process as well.
The participants were treated to breakfast and lunch, and also had a chance to meet one another at a painting session led by Mrs. Laurie Yatsonsky and a kickball game led by Mr. Randy Wolff.
“This school is so nice!" Nicholas Yatsonsky said of the day. A sentiment shared by older sister Emily Yatsonsky. “Mr. Mitchell is so nice to let the parents bring their kids to school.”
Especially since not every local school allows teachers to participate. And many, from the oldest to the youngest, took the head of the class to see just what it’s like to walk in their parents’ shoes as middle school teachers.
