Historic Honesdale hosting Harvest & Heritage Days
HONESDALE — Historic Honesdale will roll out the pumpkins, hay bales, cornstalks and fall colors for its annual "Harvest & Heritage Days" on Oct. 7 and 8, sponsored this year by The Honesdale National Bank with support from Wayne County Tourism.
Craft vendors will line Main Street on both days. Old-fashioned hayrides will be offered downtown, for a small fee, from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Students will be well represented in the parking lot of Scarfalloto’s Town House Diner. Stop by to see what they have to offer!
New this year will be a 50/50 raffle, with chances just $1 each, at the GHP tent in front of the Park ’N Shop lot near the pavilion. Railroad buffs can enjoy exhibits at the Wayne County Historical Society Museum on Main Street, which is celebrating its centennial this year. The expanded and renovated Historical Society museum will offer other exhibits, including “Wayne County in 100 Objects,” and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Tours of the historic Old Stone Jail, next to the Wayne County Court House on Court Street by Central Park, will be offered Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Wayne County Farmers' Market on Oct. 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in front of Dave’s FoodTown , 200 Willow Ave. (Rte. 6), will offer fresh produce, flowers, plants, herbs, and many more locally grown and handmade items. Demonstrations of spinning and quilting will be held at the Fred Miller Pavilion (on Main Street) on Saturday.
The Stourbridge Lion Model Railroad Club's train layout, in Grace Episcopal Church, 827 Church St., will be exhibited Saturday only from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For the kids, there will be pumpkin painting on Saturday near The Honesdale National Bank's Corporate Center on Main Street from noon to 4 p.m.
Saturday evening will feature an antique car cruise around Central Park from 4 to 9 p.m.; more than 75 antique cars are expected to cruise into town. Starting at 5 p.m., there will be music from the fifties and sixties.
On Sunday, area restaurants and local chefs will compete to in The Soup ’R Chili Taste-off in front of the Honesdale National Bank’s Corporate Center from noon to 3 p.m.
The Dessin Animal Shelter's 9th annual “Pets on Pawrade” costume competition will take place on Sunday.. Registration will begin in Central Park at noon and the parade around the park will begins at 1 p.m., with the costume judging under the Fred Miller Pavilion at approximately 2 p.m. There will be prizes awarded in at least three categories.
