Information session on WEDnetPA free training to be held
HAWLEY — Workforce Wayne, in partnership with East Stroudsburg University, will host an informational session about WEDnetPA Guaranteed Free Training, Dec. 10 from noon to 1 p.m. in The Wayne/Pike Technology Training Lab at the Hawley Silk Mill.
The information session will provide an overview of WEDnetPA training, explain what WEDnetPA training is, program eligibility, the types of eligible training, the application process, criteria for acceptance, and specific details on how the program works. There is no cost to attend this session.
The East Stroudsburg University Office of Workforce Development is a Workforce & Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania Partner (WEDnetPA). WEDnetPA encourages Pennsylvania companies to invest in themselves by taking advantage of Guaranteed Free Training which is reimbursable to qualified companies. The program is open to employers of all sizes, whether they are start-ups or established companies.
The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development has allotted East Stroudsburg University $211,124 to disperse through the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
The WEDnetPA program provides qualified companies with funds for training their employees in Basic Skills (up to $450 per eligible employee) and in Information Technology (up to $850 per eligible employee).
Companies can qualify for a total of $75,000 for Basic Skills and $50,000 for IT training. Funding is available primarily to manufacturing and technology-based industries including financial services, healthcare, biotech and environmental-tech companies. Types of eligible training under Basic Skills include, but are not limited to: Communication & Teamwork, Problem Solving, Business Operations, Workplace Health & Safety, and much more.
Types of eligible training under Information Technology include, but are not limited to: Database Development, Computer Programming, Network Administration, and Website Design and Development.
This year, ESU has worked with 33 companies including Pocono Medical Center, Stellar Technology Solutions, LLC, Keystone Automation, Inc., and Vigon International, Inc. These companies will receive reimbursement through WEDnetPA to train workers in basic skills and information technology.
“The training that WEDnet affords employers is above and beyond their normal scope of training,” said Sharone Glasco, ESU’s Interim Director of Workforce Development. “Companies are able to keep their employees abreast of best practices with cutting edge training and enhanced technology skills to be more competitive throughout Pennsylvania.”
