Lake Wallenpaupack contractors invited to free workshop

— Hundreds of people do work around Lake Wallenpaupack each year: tree cutters, landscapers, dock builders, surveyors, excavators and more.

All contractors are invited to attend a free workshop to learn more about how Lake Wallenpaupack is managed and how they can help protect it. The workshop will take place on from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, at the Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center.

The Lake Office will discuss why the water levels go up and down throughout the year, how to find the property line and normal high water mark, what types of projects are permitted or prohibited, permits that are required, and vegetation management at the lake.

Representatives of Pike and Wayne counties’ conservation districts will discuss local, state and federal permitting, including general permits that deal with docks, gravel paths, boat ramps, steps, and bank stabilization, as well as erosion and sediment control plans (E&S) and dredging.

Contractors who attend this biannual workshop will be added to the Contractors List, which is often requested by lakefront owners around the lake.

Registration is required by March 15. For more information or to register, contact Amy at the Lake Office at 877-775-5253 or lakewallenpaupack@talenenergy.com.

The Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center is part of the Wallenpaupack hydroelectric project, built in 1926 near Hawley. The learning center is off Route 6 just east of the intersection of routes 590 and 6 and next to Wallenpaupack Area High School. The hydroelectric plant provides clean, renewable energy in times of high electricity demand.
