Learn about sustainable community projects at SEEDS meeting
HONESDALE — Maya Kovalyov, president of Haven for Humanity in Livingston Manor, N.Y., will be guest speaker at the SEEDS (Sustainable Energy Education and Development Support) annual general membership meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at The Cooperage, 1030 Main St., Honesdale.
Former SEEDS board member Kim Emmett, who runs Community Vocation Services, which provides training and job opportunities for people with disabilities, will also give a talk.
The mission of Haven for Humanity, which is building a self-sustainable educational campground and community wellness center, is to inspire people of all ages to live in harmony with nature. Kovalyov will discuss their use of permaculture and edible forest design, and their 60-foot bioenergy greenhouse that grows algae used to feed their anaerobic digester.
Kim Emmett developed a community collaborative program in Honesdale with sustainable goals and practices. She and her staff and run the Park Street Café in the Park Street Complex several days a week, working with Heather Hogan-Spencer. Free baked goods from their kitchen will be served.
The meeting is open and free to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The business meeting will include elections; chair, treasury and operational reports; and the annual “year in review” presentation. Guest speakers will make their presentations from 7:45 to 8:30 p.m.
