— The Milford Garden Club is thrilled with the new lights on the Veteran’s Monument.

Vincent Accordino, the Milford Borough chair of streets and recreation, secured the lights, which a club member said at last week's borough meeting “speaks a thousand good words about our town.”

The Garden Club is planting two native mountain Laurel bushes — the Pennsylvania state flower — in addition to white and red geraniums surrounded by hostas for the planters.

Accordino thanked many community members for their help with this project: Mayor Bo Fean; Pam Leroy, president of the Milford Garden Club; Theresa Johnson, chair of the Beautification Committee; Nickolas May, borough councilman; Tom Ryan of Vetsrock; Bill Devereaux of the American Legion; Craig Cox of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; George Savastider of the Vietnam Veterans of America; Ken Baumel of The Pike County Dispatch; Jim Sechrist, retired from the Air Force; and Robert VanNest, volunteer.

Accordina said he wants to light up more borough parks to make “beautiful nooks in our community.”
