National Doctor's Day is celebrated locally

National Doctor’s Day officially began on March 30, 1991, when former President George H.W. Bush signed a proclamation designating the day as a time to celebrate the contribution of physicians who serve the nation by caring for its citizens.

Pocono Medical Center (PMC) held its annual Doctor’s Day Celebration, honoring the high-performing 235 medical staff members who provide extraordinary care to the community.

At the Doctor’s Day Celebration, the 2015 nominees and recipients of the Physicians of the Year Award were all recognized. Musa Tangoren, M.D. and Anesthesiologist and Susheer Gandotra, M.D., Medical Director, Infectious Diseases were presented with the Physician of the Year awards for their commitment to patient care and our community.

An excerpt received about Dr. Tangoren said, "He is unfailingly compassionate and always listens with genuine concern. I never have any doubt that my patients are safe and in the best of hands."

A letter submitted on Dr. Gandotra's behalf explained, "Despite his busy schedule he always finds time to assist the staff and/or respond promptly to patient questions. He treats the staff and his patients as if they were part of his family."

Dr. Delfor Salazar, Medical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was also presented with the G.L. Gupta MD Award.

An excerpt received about Dr. Salazar stated, "Over the years I have watched Dr. Salazar sit at a babies' bedside for hours on end, never giving up hope, ensuring every infant has the highest level of care with hopes for the best possible outcome. He is unwavering in his passion towards babies and their families."

Jeff Snyder, President and CEO of Pocono Health System/Pocono Medical Center, explains the significance of the awards, stating, “I would like to congratulate all our physicians for demonstrating the values of Integrity, Respect, and Teamwork. Their dedication to excellence helps fulfill our mission of providing excellent care, close to home and our vision of building a healthier community.”
