— The citizens' group Action Together NEPA is holding weekly protests at the office of U.S. Senator Pat Toomey to urge him to change his position on President Trump’s controversial travel ban.
The group is attending the “Tuesdays with Toomey” constituent gathering at 2 p.m. every week at Toomey's office at the Scranton Life Building, 538 Spruce St. #302, Scranton, Pa.
Other Action groups are visiting his offices in Philadelphia, Johnstown, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, and Allentown. The protests are organized through the Indivisible movement to oppose Trump's agenda (indivisibleguide.com).
The Scranton group began its "Tuesdays with Toomey" demonstrations on Jan. 24, and says the number of people registered for upcoming Tuesdays has more than quadrupled.
"A growing group of Senator Pat Toomey’s Pennsylvania constituents have joined to urge the Senator to represent them and keep his campaign promises to protect and serve all constituents," says a statement from Action Together NEPA. "They will visit his offices every Tuesday, indefinitely, to hold him to the promises."
The activists have been denied meetings with Toomey’s staff in Philadelphia since Dec. 20, says Action Together.
"Each week in Philadelphia, the doors are preemptively locked to keep constituents out," the group says. "Groups at Pittsburgh, Scranton, Johnstown, Harrisburg and Allentown have had more positive receptions from Toomey’s staff, but Senator Toomey has yet to address or act on any specific issues risen by any group."
