Odyssey students: We couldn't have done it without you

MILFORD — “I like this because you make us look good," Delaware Valley school board member John Wroblewski told DV's Odyssey of the Mind teams, which recently qualified for the World finals in Iowa. "I don’t know how you do it.”
The winning students attended the board’s April 21 meeting to talk about the program and express their appreciation for the district's support. Their wins at the April 2 State Finals (see sidebar) qualified them for the "Worlds," to be held May 25 to 28 at the Iowa State University.
Here's a sampling of what the students had to say:
“Our team is our family."
“I started out in Colorado theatrical team. To move here and see the support from the adminstration and school is amazing. The first year when we moved here, I had no transport. One girl didn’t show up on finals, we only had six members, so we went on. I had to memorize both of our lines, it was a little awkward because we were supposed to be having a conversation. I appeared to be a little crazy scientist. We’re always here, amazing, these people are my family. Your support is phenomenal.”
“I’ve been doing this all my life, the whole district is the same about how much you bring to us."
“We’re here to thank you for the support you give us. Other schools, even in our area don’t do it. It’s completely different, the passion and pride we have for our school....It’s not there anywhere else. Last four to five months have taken over our minds. It’s the reason we have this pride."
“It’s such a joyous feeling to be called first or second.”
The club advisor said Odyssey of the Mind builds confidence, and thanked the board for the necessary funding.
Board member Cory Homer said he went to the Odyssey competitions when he was in the school.
“It’s a great event," he said.
