Our Snow People

I am a second grader in Carol Navitsky’s class at Delaware Valley Elementary School. I am writing to tell you about a cool project we did in art class with our art teacher, Danielle Zito.

First we took pastels, and then we made half circles going down from the side of the paper. This was for our snow person’s body. Then we put a circle head on top of it. Then we made the shadow you can see on artwork. We did this by taking a dark oil pastel and rubbing it a little on the side of the head and body. While doing our shadows, we made sure we left room for a scarf that would be added.

Next, we colored in our snow people with the side of a white oil pastel. Then we made its face by giving it a carrot nose, eyes, and mouth that you could make any way you wanted to.

Next, we made our snow person’s scarf by putting a line under its head and designing our scarf to make it look like it was blowing in the wind. We could do this with any colors or style we wanted to. Then we added a stick hand, buttons, hat, and other stuff if we wanted to.

You could also put things around our snow person, such as a bird or other things. For the background, you could put anything in your artwork that you wanted to — even a snow monster like one person in our class did.

This project was fun and creative. I really liked doing this.
