Pediatric dentist joins Port Jervis practice
PORT JERVIS, N.Y. — Aesthetic Family Dentistry has added board-certified pediatric dentist Dr. Nicholas S. Katchen, DDS, to its Port Jervis office, located at 155 E. Main St.
As a pediatric dentist, Katchen will educate parents on proper oral health and how to manage their child’s dental hygiene routine until the child is old enough to start brushing on their own. He will also see to the care of all infant, toddler and child patients that come into the office.
As a pediatric dentist, Katchen has experience working with children who are nervous about visiting the dentist, and his special training helps him to alleviate children’s fears and make them more comfortable.
“I’m really glad that Nicholas has decided to join us at Aesthetic Family Dentistry,” said Dr. Seth Horn. “As the only pediatric dentist in Port Jervis, he will be providing a valuable service to the community and setting the children in the community on the right path towards good oral health and dental hygiene.”
Katchen is dual certified as a pediatric dentist and as a dentist anesthesiologist.
He received his doctorate of dental surgery from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, and he completed his first residency in special patient care at Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw, N.Y.
There, he treated adults with special needs and developmental disorders such as Down syndrome and cerebral palsy.
After completing his residency in special patient care, Katchen completed a two-year residency at NYU Lutheran Medical Center as a dentist anesthesiologist. He is board certified to provide all modes of sedation, whether it be nitrous oxide, oral sedation or IV and general anesthesia.
Following his residency at NYU, Katchen completed a two-year residency at Stony Brook University in pediatric dentistry.
Katchen chose to work for Aesthetic Family Dentistry because he prefers a family-owned, patient-centric practice that promotes individualized care more than corporately owned dental practices.
“Aesthetic Family Dentistry just seemed like a perfect fit for me,” said Katchen. “I like that they have multiple, in-office specialists, and I feel comfortable with Dr. Horn when I’m transitioning my patients out of pediatric dentistry into general dentistry. The beautiful location of the office is just an added benefit.”
Katchen is in the office on Thursdays and Fridays as well as two Saturdays a month.
