Pocono Fox Trot to raise money for Parkinson's research Milford's Parkinson's fundraiser goes national

MILFORD — When diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013, Marcia Guberman knew little about her affliction. She quickly began doing research, both online and in person, to learn as much as she could about the disease.
What she learned inspired her to support the Parkinson’s community — to help speed a cure and to provide others with valuable information that helped her navigate her diagnosis. That’s when the idea of the Pocono Fox Trot came to her.
Supported by family and friends, Guberman and her team organized in 2015 a 5K community walk to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. More than 200 participated in a day filled with camaraderie, information sharing, and hot dogs and hamburgers. Their original goal of raising $10,000 was exceeded by 100 percent, with more than $22,000 raised.
April was Parkinson’s Awareness Month nationally and the Pocono Fox Trot’s team effort, was recognized at a TeamFox for Parkinson’s Research MVP Dinner in New York City. Highlighting the event was a keynote speech by Michael J. Fox in which he congratulated fundraisers from across the nation, including the Pocono Fox Trot team. Also in April, the Pocono Fox Trot was highlighted in “The Fox Focus on Parkinson’s Research,” a national publication that focuses on research and results.
With these two recognitions, the Pocono Fox Trot truly went “national.”
Plans for the second Pocono Fox Trot are underway and will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, at Ann Street Park in downtown Milford.
