Protest against DACA elimination in Lake Ariel on Wednesday
LAKE ARIEL — #PaResist will occupy 16 member of Congress' offices on Wednesday, Sept. 6, including U.S. Rep. Tom Marino's office at 543 Easton Turnpike, Suite 101, in Lake Ariel, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Lake Ariel protest is being organized by the Delaware Valley Democrats. Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania and Equality PA are also participating.
"Trump's elimination of DACA will not stand," says the announcement of the rally.
Tuesday's decision to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which protects 800,000 youth from deportation, is an escalation of Trump’s war on immigrants and will be met with fierce resistance across Pennsylvania, states the press release.
In response, #PaResist, a statewide table of membership organizations representing hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians, will occupy Congressional offices.
“The move by Trump to end DACA can only be seen as a move towards instituting white nationalism, in a shameless attempt to further appease the white supremacists inspired by his campaign of hate to secure the presidency," said Adanjesus Marin, Director of Make the Road Pennsylvania. "There can be no confusion about the fact that this would be a direct attack on our communities, removing legal status for 800,000 immigrant youth. Anti-immigrants love to say 'get in line,' 'pay your fees,' 'follow the rules.' The DACAmented did all of that, there is no justification for putting their lives in jeopardy other than anti-immigrant hate. We will hold accountable every Congressman in Pa who doesn't stand up to denounce this act of legal terror." The complete list of locations, times, and contacts are available at http://bit.ly/2wDvrIa.
