Red Razberries grow to love gardening

— All through the growing season, Penn State Extension Master Gardener Angela Williams shares her knowledge and love of gardening as a volunteer leader with the Pike County 4-H Club, the Rad Razberries.

The club meets at the Smith-Harker Community garden in Dingmans Ferry once a week during the planting, growing, and harvesting season. Then in the fall, it’s time to put the garden to bed and make plans for the next growing season.

“The kids really enjoy gardening," Williams said. "Each week is a different theme. This week, it was the water cycle. Last week, it was geology, with the help of apples as the earth — then they ate the earth! There is a segment on entomology, identifying helpful and hurtful bugs. All that they learn through lessons and observation is recorded in their garden books.”

The Rad Razberries 4-H club is open to children age 8 – 18 years of age. For more information on this club and other Pike County 4-H opportunities, call (570) 296-3400; or visit Pike County 4-H, 514 Broad St., Milford, PA; or send an email to PikeExt@psu.edu.
