— The Delaware Valley school board made some policy changes at its October meeting, and provided an update on the district's multi-million dollar renovation project.

The policy changes passed without comment from public, but board member John Wroblewski questioned the tutoring policy.

“Why are we specifically to restrict tutoring to the members of a family?" he asked. "I’m not understanding this."

He was referring to the language that states: “A properly qualified private tutor shall mean a person who is certified by the Commonwealth to teach in Pennsylvania public schools; who is teaching one (1) or more children who are members of a single family; who provides the majority of instruction to such a child or children; and who is receiving a fee or other consideration for instructional services.”

Casey said, jokingly, “I make sure I’ll have that explanation to you after the meeting,” causing chuckles all around the board.

Update on constructionIn other business, the board approved some requested money transfers from the general to the capital reserve fund "to be earmarked for the CTE Project,” and approved change orders regarding the ongoing renovations on campus, both at the new elementary school and at the high school. They include tearing down the existing elementary school, renovating the swimming pool spectator area, and building a brand-new sports complex on the site of the existing parking lot. The parking area itself is being redesigned for the traffic flow.

The work started in late June 2015 and is projected to be completed by mid-October 2016.

According to the district website, Quandel Construction Group of Harrisburg, which is contracted for the work, reports that almost 25 percent has been completed, with 11 days lost to bad weather.

The report explains that the rain garden has been planted, and the masonry bearing walls completed at the pool entrance, locker room, and pool viewing areas. Masonry installation is almost completed at the wrestling room and is ongoing at the gymnasium. The east wall of the gymnasium was to be completed last month, with erection of the south and west gym walls to follow.

Roof steel has been set at the pool entrance, wrestling room, and pool viewing areas, according to the site. The installation of gymnasium high roof steel is to begin on Nov. 16.
