— Local radio/TV personality and electrical engineer "Shadoe Steele," aka Dale Mikolaczyk, recently talked to the cadets and senior members of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Scranton Composite Squadron 201 about his experience in radio broadcasting and satellite communications.
Part of the CAP's Aerospace Education program, the talk provided the cadets with real-life examples of how communications has changed over time and careers that will be available in the future. He talked about the role Northeastern Pennsylvania has played in the communications industry, from the first cable television systems to the Telemetry, Tracking and Control station that worked with NASA and the space shuttle to place AT&T, Direct TV and Sirius-XM satellites into orbit.
Cadets asked Shadoe questions about his experience with the Deep Water Horizon BP oil spill and the range of careers available in the communications industry.
The Scranton Composite Squadron 201 meets at 7 p.m. every Monday evening at the Lackawanna Public Safety Center, 30 Valley View Drive, Jessup, PA. For membership information email Capt. McCormick at amccormick319@gmail.com.
