DINGMANS FERRY — Students at Delaware-Dingman Middle School observed World Suicide Prevention Day on Friday, Sept. 9, by wearing yellow and raising awareness.
Suicide is the number 10 killer in the United States and the second-leading cause of death for rural adolescents.
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Pennsylvania's Act 71 addresses the need for suicide prevention education in its school at the secondary level.
One of the best ways to reduce the risk of suicide is to talk about it, say the students. Anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts should call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-TALK (8255) or visit suicidepreventionlifeline.org.
