'The Leader In Me'

MILFORD — The Delaware Valley school board members were all smiles as they took a break from their usually somber and serious discussions.
That's because students from the Dingman Delaware schools came to talk about what it means to be a leader. Their presentation, “Leader In Me,” included some video. And in a surprise move, the children walked up to each board member and administrator and gave each a bag of candy — with introductions, handshakes, and acknowledgements all around.
The students and their video presentation explained that you can be a leader in many ways. Teachers and others talked about what made them leaders, encouraged students to give their best, and explained how they, too, can step up.
There was plenty of applause standing-room-only meeting room for the newest crop of leaders.
One kid said, very loudly and assertively:
“Your name is not Jack — it’s Dad!”
The lad was referring to board member and vice chair Jack O’Leary, drawing out much laughter and more clapping.
Before the kids walked in, their teacher told the board: “They are very very excited!”
Which turned out to be an understatement.
Board member John Wroblewski summed up what everyone probably was thinking and feeling.
“I would like to thank all of the green shirts for reminding us why we are here," he said.
