Third-graders tend their flock-to-be

Students in Mr. Allen Brocious’ third-grade class at Delaware Valley Elementary School are trying to hatch 17 chicken eggs.
The eggs are from the McFeely family in Dingmans Ferry, who keep their own small flock of chickens for eggs and meat.
The students set up their our incubator in late May and regularly check the temperature to be sure it's as close to 100 degrees as possible. The best hatching temperatures for chickens are between 98 and 101 degrees Fahrenheit.
The students are learning about embryo development and the care of an incubator, and take turns tending to the eggs. The children are gaining a new appreciation for the miracle of life.
It normally takes 21 days for chicken eggs to hatch.
