Lacawac Sanctuary announces a series of programs through the summer
Delaware Valley Raptor Center's live birds presentation will take place in its historic Carriage House barn Close Encounters with Live Birds of Prey
Saturday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m. to noon. Eagles, owls, falcons and hawks wil be presented on a first come, first seated basis. Admission is $10 for adaults, $3 for each child.
The sanctuary also will host Wild Mushroom Walk, Saturday, Aug. 27, 10 a.m. to noo. when Delaware Highlands Mushroom Society shares a wealth of knowledge in how wild edibles are enjoyed by wildlife and humans. This is a short-distance walk that costs $10, $5 for members. Wear comfortable footwear. Registration appreciated.
Bird-Watching on the Water will be held 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. Join experts from Northeast Pennsylvania Audubon Society for an early morning paddle on Lake Lacawac. Enjoy a bagel breakfast in the historic Watres Lodge. Boats and lifejackets are provided; personal lifejackets may be used. Registration limited. The event costs $15, $10 for members.
Join historian Roy Chesseri for a guided paddle on Lake Lacawac for the Historic Wates Paddle from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 24. Get a glimpse into the vision behind Lacawac’s 50-year history as well as founder, Arthur Watres’ vision for research, education and public enjoyment. Boats and lifejackets are provided; personal lifejackets may be used. Registration limited. It costs $15, $10 for members.
Celebrate Lacawac Sanctuary’s 50th anniversary in the hundred-year-old Watres lodge at the Anniversary Tea and Tour from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 25. Admission is $15 and reservations are recommended. Step back in time during a guided tour through the lodge and discover its fascinating story. Relax with others over tea and a selection of refreshments and enjoy a stroll outside before or after tea.
