Veteran to get tax exemption

DINGMAN TOWNSHIP — Dingman township officials showed their caring side Tuesday, when a request from a disabled veteran came across their desk.
James Mulligan of West Mulberry Drive had applied to the Pennsylvania State Veterans’ Commission for an exemption on his real estate taxes, which were due Nov. 2.
“The Department of Veterans Affairs recommends this disabled Army veteran," said supervisors' chair Tom Mincer, after the other supervisors read the letter. "My recommendation is to follow suit, to grant a veteran's exemption to someone who served our country.”
Supervisors Dennis Brink and Kerry Welsh agreed, and the motion passed anonymously.
The letter, dated Nov. 25, came from Cory Bender, Veterans Service Officer Supervisor at the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in Annville. Bender wrote that Mulligan had demonstrated need, and that “the office has verified with the Department of Veterans Affairs that the applicant is totally and permanently disabled as a result of service connected causes incurred during a period of war or armed conflict.”
