— Walter Myer retired this year after 53 years of service to Dingman Township’s Planning Commission.
He started serving on the commission when it was first formed in 1962, and then became its chair in 1988.
Supervisors Chair Thomas Mincer has often praised Myer in township meetings, hailing his contribution to the township’s affairs and his affable personality, and regretting his departure from an important position.
The planning commission and board of supervisors presented Myer with a crystal eagle and a plaque, and also threw him a party with cake and beverages in the township building before the March 23 supervisors' meeting.
At the party, Mincer talked about Myer's his long service to the township.
Joking, he said he expects the newly appointed chairman, Ed Nikles Jr., to hold the position for at least as long as Myer did.
Township and Planning Commission solicitor John Klemeyer described the many projects approved while Myer was at the helm, including Pocono Mountain Woodland Lakes, Pocono Mountain Water Forest, Conashaugh Lakes, and many others.
Klemeyer said many meetings well past midnight, and told humorous anecdotes about what happened at meetings through the years.
A plaque honoring Myer will be on permanent display in the township building.
