In May, Delaware Valley Middle School and Dingmans Delaware Middle School partnered with the American Reader’s Theater for the Writer’s Project, a series of workshops and performances centered on the life and times of Maya Angelou.

Activities included Calypso lessons with Larry Fuller, an award winning Broadway choreographer; dramatic readings with Jeffrey Stocker; and a cinematic menagerie which raised awareness of racial injustice, presented by John DiLeo, a noted film historian and author.

In addition, students created Power Points about Maya Angelou’s life, studied portrait art, performed musical compositions related to the time period.

The DVMS jazz band performed an original musical composition, created by music teacher Richard Bullock, of Maya Angelou’s poem “Alone.”
