Memorial Day

A time to remember Memorial Day weekend in Pike County was marked with poignancy and patriotism. There were commemorations, and parades and monuments were dedicated to the dead of wars past and current. Veterans and officials (above) gathered in Matamoras Saturday to recall World War II, while others attended ceremonies in Gold Key Lake on Sunday to dedicate a memorial to Army Reserve Lt. Louis Allen, who died last year in Iraq. The tradition of Milford’s Memorial Day Parade continued on a sultry Monday morning, as observers (above and right) gathered, the band played and old soldiers skipped once more to keep in timed step as they marched across Harford and up Broad.
