DINGMAN — “The noise wakes me up every morning,” Lou Manuppelli told the Dingman Township Supervisors Tuesday. Speaking during last week’s supervisors meeting public comment period Manuppelli referred to the noise coming from construction equipment at the site of the new township park on Log Tavern Road. “Every morning the back-up alarms coming from the construction equipment start as early as 5:40 a.m. I called the township and was told there is no noise ordinance. I live in a private lake community and we have noise regulations but the township who is building the new park not far from my home can make all the noise they want, at any time they want to.” Supervisors Chairman Tom Mincer replied, “Private communities can adopt these kinds of rules but it is harder for a township. Enforcement is especially hard to accomplish.” Manuppelli said he had called township office again and was told by the person answering the phone that she would speak to someone regarding the noise situation. After nothing changed for about two weeks Manuppelli went to the site of the new park and spoke to the construction foreman himself. “There is nothing I can do; I’ll have to talk to the boss,” said the foreman. Manuppelli said it is now three weeks later and the noise still continues at those early morning hours. “At 3 p.m. they’re finished; it must be a union job or something because at that time they’re history,” Mincer told Manuppelli that he would look into the situation and speak to the contractor about not starting before 7 a.m.
