BLOOMING GROVE n Pike County Conservation District is now accepting applications from residents and communities who would like to be considered for gypsy moth spraying in 2008. This is a state program, run by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) with cooperation from Pike County. The Gypsy Moth Suppression Program is aimed at limiting defoliation caused by gypsy moth caterpillars, not destroying the entire gypsy moth population. Any person who would like to be evaluated for possible inclusion in the spring 2008 program must submit an application to our office by August 10. The Gypsy Moth Program guidelines require a 25-acre minimum spray block size. It is strongly encouraged that residents speak with their neighbors to ensure that you meet this spray block size. To be considered for this program: • Residence must be within 200 feet of the forest • Property must have at least 250 egg masses per acre • There must be a residence on the property Individual applications must be submitted with a $10 non-refundable application fee. Community applications must be submitted with a $50 non-refundable application fee. Applications are available on the Web at www.pikeconservation.org, or they can be picked up at the County Administration Building, municipal offices, or by contacting the Pike County Conservation District. All applications must be received by the Pike County Conservation District by Aug. 10. A public meeting will be held to discuss the Gypsy Moth program on July 26, at 7 p.m. at the Delaware Township Municipal Building. If you have any questions about the minimum requirements to qualify for this state program or if you have never participated in the suppression program, you are urged to attend. Please note that submitting an application and fee only allows your property to be evaluated for the program. It does not guarantee that the property will be included in the program. For more information, please visit our website at www.pikeconservation.org and click on “Gypsy Moth Information” or attend the informational session on July 26, 2007 at the Delaware Township Municipal Building.
