PORT JERVIS, N.Y. — On Tuesday, Aug. 4, the Port Jervis Police Department will hold their third annual National Night out at Riverside Park from 6 to 9 p.m. Neighborhoods across the nation have been joining forces against crime on the 1st Tuesday in August for 26 years. Citizens participate by leaving their porch lights on, locking their doors and coming out and getting to know their neighbors. This unifying event sends the message that the community is organized and fighting back against crime. The event in Port Jervis will begin with a march of DARE students from city hall at 5:30 p.m, arriving at Riverside Park at 6 p.m., to kick-off the festivities. There will be live music the entire night and special demonstrations. There will be games for all ages including a basketball hoop shoot, races, bounce house, rock climbing wall, and much more. A testimonial in gratitude of the Port Jervis Police Department will be made by Barbara Kilbride of the Medicine Shop. Hot dogs, drinks and snacks are on the menu. Over 35 local organizations with games and information on helping a community stay healthy are scheduled to be at the event. There will be lots of door prizes and raffles. The entire event is free and opened to anyone in Port Jervis and the neighboring communities who supports a crime prevention message.
