New management at Deer Head Inn

    DELAWARE WATER GAP - The sale of the Deer Head Inn, home of jazz in the Pocono Mountains for more than 50 years, was finalized recently. The landmark building built by Samuel Overfield between 1853 and 1865, began filling “The Gap” with jazz when Bob and Fay Lehr purchased the business in 1953. In 1992 their daughter, Dona, and here husband Chris Solliday purchased the well-established business. Renowned jazz musicians who have performed at the Deer Head include John Coates, Jr., Phil Woods, Dave Liebman, Bob Dorough, Keith Jarrett, Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Urbie Green, Pat Metheny , David “Fat Head” Newman, Bucky Pizzarelli, Stan Getz, George Young, and the list goes on. The new owners, Dennis Carrig, Robert Mancuso, Jason Wilson, and Mary Carrig, plan to keep the focus of the Deer Head Inn as a jazz club, continuing to serve dinner. Future plans include building renovations, expanding the hours of operation, and reopening the Inn to accommodate overnight guests. A formal grand opening is planned for next month after some modifications are completed in the downstairs area of the building. A new, immediate offering is the Deer Head Inn Sunday Jazz Lunch, The $20 fee includes music and a buffet lunch. Friday and Saturday hours of operation remain the same, 5 pm to 12 am.
