MILFORD — In an effort to give domestic violence victims assistance in calling for help and to raise money for domestic violence programs, Safe Haven is always collecting used, unwanted cell phones. Many of the phones go to domestic violence victims for use in emergency situations, with others sold to provide funds for our free services. Your used cell phone provides victims or potential victims the ability to call 911 in the event of an emergency. A cell phone can be programmed to call 911, regardless of whether the user has purchased a service plan or not. The phone simply needs to be charged. 911 services are automatic on any home or business phone where previous phone services had been in place, whether there is a dial tone or not. Cell phones can be dropped off at Safe Haven of Pike County, 500 West Harford Street between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Feel free to place cell phones on the porch if after hours. For more information on how you can help, call 570-296-2827. Other locations that you can find a cell phone drop-off boxes are located at 7th Street Coffee House, MailNet, Bodies in Balance, ForkLift Café, Pike Physical Fitness, Citizens Bank, Arnold’s, Ray & Charles and Olive Branch. Safe Haven, Inc., a not-for-profit organization is dedicated to restoring dignity to victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
