Milford — Commissioners’ Chief Clerk Gary Orben on Wednesday confirmed his concurrent appointment as director of elections, replacing Yolanda Goldsack, who last week submitted her resignation and asked to be transferred to another job. Orben, who is a 33-year county employee and has served as chief clerk since 1997, began work immediately following a June 25 appointment. He said Wednesday evening that he was asked to take on the position and “I serve at the pleasure of the commissioners. I pretty much do what they want me to do.” His appointment was announced at the July 1 commissioners’ meeting., after the commissioners formally accepted Goldsack’s resignation.. Orben said Goldsack was tentatively transferred to a secretarial position “but that may change,” he added. Goldsack, who has made no comment since her resignation, had been criticized for her job performance, most recently after petition and voting complaints during the May primaries.
