Outage closes school

This season’s first early dismissal was not due to snow. An Orange and Rockland Utilities workman is pictured dealing with a fallen tree branch that caused a Nov. 9 power outage at the Delaware Valley High School and Middle School. Two downed power lines caused a small brush fire, which the Westfall Fire Department extinguished. The outage occurred at 11:15 a.m. between the high school and the neighboring Milford Senior care Center. A spokesman for the utility said the power outage lasted two hours. Students in the two affected schools were sent home at 1:00 p.m., following their lunch period. All returned to normal the following day. (Photo by Nick Troiano)
