PCAC names 2007 scholarship recipients

MILFORD n The twelfth annual Georgiana P. Kiger “Excellence in Art” Scholarships were awarded at the annual Pike County Arts and Crafts exhibition earlier this month. Anika Scheepers, was awarded $500. Anika said “I plan to double major in Studio Art, with a concentration in Painting and Drawing, and Psychology at Pennsylvania State University, University Park campus. After graduating, I plan on furthering my education by obtaining either a Masters in Art or Art Therapy. My long term goal is to become and Art Therapist, but I hope to refine my artistic talent enough for me to become a professional artist as well.” A second $500 award went to Sydney Polatnick. Sydney commented, “I’ve never really had a choice on going down the creative path. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been creating, whether it’s been art or the masterpieces in my diapers. I’ve always had a love for making characters, creatures, worlds, out of anything and everything. It starts with a single squiggle and ends with a story and a life of its own. Everything I’ve done, every job that I’ve had has revolved around art. I was even born on Michael Angelo’s birthday, now is that destiny or what?! I have been accepted to all colleges I applied to, but schooling in the field of animation is expensive.” The two winners were chosen among fine artists who applied from Notre Dame, Lake Wallenpaupack and Delaware Valley High Schools. Judges said it was not an easy endeavor, as the pool of candidates showed promise, discipline and talent. PCAC offered a special thank you to all the art teachers and administration of these high schools that supported these young artists’ ambitions and talents, and to all who contributed to the scholarship fund drives.
