Milford — At a Wednesday afternoon ceremony Pike County Light & Power officials announced sponsorship of one of Milford’s pedestrian lamp posts in honor of the Milford Enhancement Committee’s “Make a Memory” campaign. Dick Snyder, president of the Milford Enhancement Committee; Edwin Ortiz, vice president of Pike County Light and Power; Barry Short, PCL&P Public Affairs Manager; and Mike Donovan, PCL&P Community Relations were among those on hand for the Broad Street ceremony. “We join the Enhancement Committee of the Historic Preservation Trust of Pike County in believing that the community’s unusually rich history holds one of the keys to the community’s richer, more prosperous future,” said Short. “We salute the Enhancement Committee’s efforts to preserve, protect and popularize the national treasures that reside here. Those artifacts not only provide cultural and educational enrichment, but they help develop and expand a more robust tourism and travel industry here. Those ‘destination’ exhibits and programs have proven very successful draws for visitors who also browse in our shops, eat in our restaurants and rest in our hotels. In turn, those retail revenues permit the local economy to support these priceless relics from the nation’s past,” he added. The Milford Enhancement Committee (MEC) is still working hard to enhance and beautify the streetscapes of Milford’s business district. With five phases complete, the committee moves onto the sixth phase, but not without apprehension. This year, more than ever, the nonprofit organization needs the financial support of the community and all those that support its cause, prompting its “Make a Memory” campaign.
