PennDOT awards bridge rehab project

    MATAMORAS — PennDOT announced that it has awarded a bridge rehabilitation project at the Route 6 bridge over the Delaware River in Matamoras Borough. The work is being financed with federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). PennDOT awarded a $2,638,000 bridge contract to Minichi, Inc. of Dupont in Luzerne County. Work includes repairs to the steel structure, beams and expansion joints as well as painting to prevent further deterioration. PennDOT expects this job to begin in spring 2010. A detour will be in place with traffic traveling from New York into Pennsylvania using Route 6. Traffic traveling into New York from Pennsylvania will use Interstate Highway 84 as the detour route.
