MATAMORAS — PennDOT recently presented awards for combating aggressive drivers to the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department and one of its officers. The police department and its assistant chief Eric Stewart were recognized for outstanding performance under the Pa. Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project. The purpose of PADEEP is to reduce the effects of aggressive driving by providing education, information and solutions for the state’s aggressive driving problems. Law enforcement agencies across the state, as part of Drive Safe PA, have stepped up efforts to address aggressive driving offenses such as speeding, tailgating and red light running in an effort to save lives and reduce crashes. PennDOT aims to save at least 100 more lives each year on Pennsylvania roads, with the goal of reducing fatalities to 1,150 or less by 2011.
