PennDOT remembers agency's fallen workers

DUNMORE Earlier this month District Executive George Roberts (pictured speaking) unveiled a memorial to fallen highway workers to permanently honor the 10 employees who died in the line of duty in Northeastern Pennsylvania since 1970 PennDOT employees and their union paid for the approximately $3,800 keystone-shaped bluestone monument on District 4 property in Dunmore, which will contain plaques for the 10 workers. Statewide, 78 workers have been killed in the same period. “We want this tribute to our fallen workers to send out a strong message about the importance of work zone safety,” Roberts said. “Our intent is to make work zones safer for motorists and for highway workers. “By remembering these tragedies, perhaps we can take steps to avoid them in the future. Making our work zones safer really will save lives.”
