Pike Builders keep the rain away

LACKAWAXEN The Pike County Builders Association (PCBA) provided peace of mind and strength to a failing roof for the Devoe Family of Fawn Lake Forest. In December 2007, Karen Blakesley of the Fawn Lake Board of Directors contacted the PCBA asking for assistance for the Devoe family who desperately needed roof repairs and had fallen on hard times. The necessary repairs were beyond their do-it-yourself abilities and tight budget. Each rain and snowstorm found more leaks and the tarp was soon damaged by wind, raccoons and squirrels. Unfortunately, the leaking roof was the least of the Devoe family worries. The family of six was continually on the road to and from a Philadelphia hospital for intensive medical treatments for their son. The financial burden associated with the expenses, travel and appointments made a new roof virtually unobtainable. Fred Horak, H&H Homes, a member of the PCBA and also a resident of Fawn Lake Forest and Len Crescimanno, Cresci Construction also a PCBA member, formed a committee to look into the Devoe Family situation. Gumble Brothers of Tafton agreed to donate the roofing materials and the PCBA contracted with Tom Christenson and crew to install a new roof. Their hard work and efforts resulted in a new roof for the Devoe Family by January 2008, a quick turnaround that saved the family from experiencing even more winter precipitation “That first time it rained after the roof was complete was the first time in a long time that we did not have to get up and put bowls under the new leaks while battling with the old leaks,” said Lori Devoe. She extended special thanks to Fred Horak, Len and Lorraine Crescimanno, Karen Blakesley, Cathy Dotey, Tom Christensen, Gumble Brothers and Bob Pierce, PCBA President. The Pike County Builders Association was formed in 1978 and is celebrating their 30th year. The PCBA continues to strive towards “Building Today For a Better Tomorrow”.
