Pike opts out of moth spraying
MILFORD The still unsettled state budget has prompted Pike County to drop out of 2010 state spraying program. A Wednesday statement from Pike Conservation District reported that “... Continued uncertainty regarding state budget cuts along with widespread caterpillar mortality and limited areas of gypsy moth caterpillar defoliation in the County this year prompted the decision to suspend the program for next spring.” Gypsy moth caterpillar numbers were down this year, and may be again next year, but caterpillar hot spots may create a nuisance to homeowners. Communities and landowners should plan alternatives if they plan to spray in 2010. For more information, visit www,pikeconservation.org or call the district spray coordinator 570-226-8220.
