Pike rabies clinic scheduled
Matamoras – The Pike County Humane Society in conjunction with Dr. Satzger is offering a low cost rabies clinic for all. The vaccinations will be given out at the Matamoras Firehouse on Avenue Q near Airport Park in Matamoras on Sunday Apr. 29 from 9 a.m. to noon. Pennsylvania law requires all dogs and indoor cats to be vaccinated for rabies. The fine for not having a current rabies vaccination for your pet can be up to $300. The cost for a vaccine at our clinic is $12- per animal. Some additional vaccines will be available at extra cost upon request and the program is not limited to Pike County residents. They are accepting cash only for this event and there will be no exceptions. Remember: Rabies threatens the lives of humans and animals and has been spreading across Pennsylvania for more than a decade. Unvaccinated dogs and cats are a threat to spread the disease to humans. Rabies is almost always fatal. Vaccinations are necessary to protect pets, their owners and the public against rabies and are simply good common sense. It is the law that any dog or cat over the age of 3 months must have a current rabies vaccine. Lack of proof of a rabies vaccine can be punishable by fines up to $300-. Taking your pet to a Rabies Clinic such as this one does not take the place of your pets annual exam with your veterinarian. The society strongly recommends yearly exams for your pets other necessary vaccines, heartworm checks and an all over body check to insure a long and healthy life for your pet. All animals MUST be either in a sturdy approved pet crate or on a secure collar and leash. The Matamoras Firehouse is located in the middle of a neighborhood and near a busy park so make sure you can keep your pets secure and safe.
