For the first quarter of 2010, Part I offenses (Murder, Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Larceny, Burglary and Motor Vehicle Theft) increased 38.8% from 2009. Notable increases occurred in the categories of Burglary, Larceny and Robbery. Part II offenses which represent all other offense types also experienced a slight increase. Police and fire department host safety day MATAMORAS The Eastern Pike Regional Police Department and Matamoras Fire department are holding their annual Safety Day at the Matamoras Airport Park on Saturday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Matamoras Firehouse, 6th Street and Avenue Q. The Port Jervis Police Department and Bon Secours Community Hospital will be partnering to conduct a Bicycle Rodeo on Saturday June 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the rear parking lot of Bon Secours Community Hospital at 160 East Main Street. There will be bicycle registration, inspection, a helmet giveaway and instructions for properly wearing helmets, bicycle safety education as well as an obstacle course. Virginia vandal held in Pike BLOOMING GROVE Pennsylvania State Police have arrested a man wanted in the vandalism of a Virginia Beach, Va. home. They arrested Pedro Fierro, 38, Saturday during a traffic stop on Interstate Highway 84 in Pike County, according to state police. Fierro will be extradited to Virginia Beach, where he is wanted on felony destruction of property charges. Fierro is accused of entering a home of an acquaintence in Virginia Beach in March 2008 and causing $5,000 in damage by marking graffiti on the walls, according to Virginia police.
