MILFORD - The United Way of Pike County once again invites local non-profit 501(c)(3) agencies to participate in their Sixth Annual Day of Caring. The day will be held on Saturday, September 9. Last year over 200 volunteers, age 14 or older assisted 20 agencies in completing 23 projects in one single day. Some volunteers were so impressed by the work of the organizations they helped, that they went back to help again and again over the course of this past year. Projects completed last year included painting and repairing facilities, landscaping, detailing transport vans, repairing and refurbishing of preschool facilities, cleaning, assisting with clerical work, cataloging lending library items, sorting clothes, refurbishing and making trails accessible, updating databases, shelving & shifting of library books, compiling volunteer packets, helping at fundraisers and creating picture files to assist learning English as a Second Language. Day of Caring volunteers possess a wide range of skills and Pike United Way welcomes variety in agency project requests. The workday will begin at 7:45 a.m., with breakfast. Then a team of volunteers will work to complete the projects at sites from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Each volunteer receives a Day of Caring T-shirt and a thank you letter from United Way. If you would like your non-profit organization to participate and receive the benefit of this generous outpouring of volunteer help please request an Agency Volunteer Opportunity Form from the United Way by calling 570-296-9980 or 1-888-306-6963 or e-mail uwpc@ptd.net or visiting www.unitedwaypike.org.
