Property tax/rent rebate filing due Dec. 31

    HARRISBURG - The deadline to apply for a property tax or rent rebate is only one week away. Older and disabled Pennsylvanians must apply for the state’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program for the 2004 claim year before Dec. 31. People who qualify can receive a rebate of up to $500 for the amount they paid in property taxes or rent last year. The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 or older, widows and widowers age 50 or older and people with disabilities age 18 or older. The household eligibility income limit is $15,000, excluding one-half of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income and some railroad retirement benefits. Program forms are available at local Area Agencies on Aging, senior centers or state legislators’ offices and online through the Revenue Department’s Web site at www.revenue.state.pa.us . Revenue Department help is available to answer questions and assist people with their rebate applications Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling toll-free 1-888-222-9190.
