Reading earns students rewards

WESTFALL Kids love to be rewarded for their hard work, and at DVES there are plenty of rewards for students children to choose from. Pictured are students who shopped at the Delaware Valley Elementary School Dollar Store, operated by DVES PTA volunteers. These students chose to spend their “money” on a swimming certificate to go to the Delaware Valley High School natatorium to swim for 30 minutes, one day. Children in grades two through six get to read and take tests on a program called Reading Counts. DVES PTA decides on how many points each grade level must achieve in order to shop at their store. In addition to buying physical items, some of the newly added features to the store are: swimming certificates, after-school movie nights, computer time, art time, extra gym time, Principal for the Day, and Lunch with the Principal. Younger children, kindergarten and first grade, may also read for rewards. Children in these grades, with help from their families, keep a monthly log. Again, the DVES PTA volunteers run a monthly store for them.
