MILFORD — Members of the news team from Channel 13 recently visited the Delaware Valley Elementary and one of the DVE-TV reporters did an account of their visit. By Seth Dalton I am a sixth grade reporter from Delaware Valley Elementary School. We had News 13-TV reporters come to our school two days in a row. They helped our DVE-TV and News teams kick off their 18th year of reporting. Shannon Murphy and Marie Johns with cameraman Steve Tanczyn visited our school at 8 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday and gave us some advice for being on television. Some words of advice Marie Johns gave us were that everyone makes mistakes, we are not perfect, and we are human. Marie Johns said one of the things that she used to do when she was nervous, she would save her stories and look in the mirror and pretend she was the audience. She would then read her stories out loud to herself until she felt confident. Ms. Johns is also in charge of a shoe drive that is collecting shoes for kids overseas and those who are in need in the United States. If you have shoes that are new or like new and between infants and kids’ size 5 and can help, please send them to our school. We have collection boxes in our front hall. The collection drive will be going on until Oct. 30. Some advice Shannon Murphy gave us was to be confident and not to worry if you make a mistake. Mostly, nobody would even know if you made a tiny mistake in pronouncing a word. She also had some of our reporters come up in front of everyone while she interviewed each. Steve Tanczyn filmed it. It was a great way to see a real interview and how it is filmed. We were actually on the news that night, too. I hope I can become a great reporter like these people. We really appreciate all of television and newspaper friends. They are awesome! - Seth Dalton is a member of Cindy Roa’s sixth grade
