Restaurant-deli partners with community to fight hunger

SHOHOLA — After reading of the many local food drives going on in the community, The Windy Dog Restaurant and Deli-Mart joined forces with the Twin Lake Property Owners Association to collect food for the Pike County Public Library Food Drive. The collected food was then donated to the Ecumenical Food Pantry located at the Church of the Good Shepherd & St. John the Evangelist in Milford. The food drive started with a small bin for customers to make donations while getting a cup of coffee and newspaper or stopping by for dinner with friends. This quickly grew by the end of September to three over-flowing bins. Karen Loeschorn and Deena Slain, sisters/owners of the Windy Dog, did not have to think twice when approached by local resident Kirk Mackey, of the Twin Lakes Property Owners Association, to see what could be done to help the Food Pantry. “We have always been amazed at how our community rises to the challenge to help others in need,” said Loeschorn. It is the hope of Karen, Deena and Kirk that someday food drives will no longer be needed, but until such time they plan on this becoming an annual event. If you missed the opportunity to donate food, please contact the Church of the Good Shepherd & St. John the Evangelist at 570-296-8123.
