Scholarship awarded

Port Jervis, N.Y. — The Port Jervis Kiwanis Club recently presented 2007 Port Jervis High School graduate, Elyse Godfrey, with a scholarship check for $500. Miss Godfrey was chosen for her membership and dedication to the high school’s Key Club as well as for her community service activities. She will be attending Elmira College this fall to pursue a degree in nursing. Key Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis and largely focuses its activities on community service. This is the second year that the Port Jervis Kiwanis Club has awarded their scholarship and intends to increase the amount to $1,000 next year. “Much will depend upon our fundraising efforts in the coming year and also growth in our membership,” stated club president, Mary Decker. “We are currently seeking new members to enhance the activities of our club which are solely focused on our local youth,” she added.
